Android Pie update plan for ASUS Zenfone Lineup

Google officially released Android Pie to the public on August 6th of last year. This was months after a public beta test and we already know that Google works closely with some OEMs to help them get the latest update pushed out as quickly as possible. Most companies have delayed these major updates until the end of last year and early this year. Historically, we have seen the newer devices from companies get the latest update first and ASUS has released an official roadmap for when its ZenFone series will get the Android 9 Pie update.

Still, with the work Google has put in with Project Treble and partnering directly with OEMs, it doesn’t seem to have made the impact that so many people hoped for. These OEMs get the source code for the next update before and along with the public betas that go out. It’s gotten to the point that some people think it has become an embarrassing data point for Google as they haven’t updated their Android distribution dashboard in months. ASUS has a plan though and they recently published their list of devices they want to update to Android 9 Pie throughout this year:

ZenFone 4 Max (ZC554KL)
ZenFone 4 Selfie (ZD553KL)
ZenFone 4 Max (ZC520KL)
ZenFone Live (ZB553KL)
ZenFone 4 Max (ZB520KL)
ZenFone Max Plus (M1) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB570TL)
ZenFone 5Q (ZC600KL)
ZenFone Live (L1) Clear Soft Bumper (ZA550KZ / ZA551KL)
ZenFone Max Pro (ZB602KL)
ZenFone Max Pro (ZB601KL)
ZenFone Max (M1) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB555KL / ZB556KL)
ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL)
ZenFone 5Z (ZS620KL)
ASUS ROG Phone (ZS600KL)
ZenFone Max Pro (M2) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB631KL/ ZB630KL)
ZenFone Max (M2) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB633KL / ZB632KL)

Now, we don’t know exactly which devices ASUS is currently planning on prioritizing first. Sadly they didn’t give us that much detail when it comes to this roadmap, but if you own one of the smartphones listed above then you can rest assured knowing that ASUS has plans for an update for your device.
