Windows 10 October 2018 Update is Deleting Files: Report

Tech giant Microsoft has stopped the rollout of the latest October 2018 update of Windows 10 due to an issue reported in the media – that the update wipes out user files including documents and photos.

Microsoft hadn’t rolled out the automatic update for the same though it was available for manual installation using the “Windows Update” option on computers using the operating system. The company has now clarified that distribution of the update has been “paused” while it investigates the issue.

There have been a lot of users who have taken to social media and Microsoft’s own support website to report the problem.

“Last night I updated Windows 10 and it all went smoothly, but then I find that all my files in Documents are deleted. This included many crucial documents and financial info,” a user-complaint on the Microsoft support page read.

Microsoft is recommending that affected users get in touch with the company and report the problem directly. If a user has already downloaded the update, they have been asked not to install it until new media is available.

The company is currently looking into the matter, though apart from the following message on the support page, no official statement has yet been released:

“We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,”

The update for Windows 10 was announced in September with new features and enhancements for over 700 million devices running Windows 10. The update was made available globally on October 2.

This seems to be pretty serious, though updating your PC is not the only option, these days security is taken seriously so users are left with no option. Windows also doesn’t seem to have an alternative. Thanks for reading Everyone, share your thoughts below & Stay Connected.
